Pitch shifting is when another note is added to the one that you are playing. This other note can be set at various intervals up to two octaves above or below the original note. An interval is the distance between two notes. Each interval has a different sound so you need to experiment to find one that you like. Another use for pitch shifting is when an expression pedal is used to change the pitch of the additional note according to how far the pedal is moved.
